First off there are no ashes left after cremation, just pulverized bone fragments.
We seem to have different attitudes toward cremation remains than we do about dead bodies. If we kept a dead loved ones body on display in our home in a decorative container, or make a some kind of keep sake out of it, that would be alarmingly weird and cause for real concern. But doing something similar with cremated remains isn't considered disturbing at all and even encouraged. Also we have more liberal attitudes of where we can dump cremated remains versus where we can dump bodies.

Please don't let me be misunderstood.
