At work we had two instances of GRS going on. Andrea became and Andrew. Co-workers who didn't know much about what was going on made rude and snide comments quietly in the breakroom until a manager told everyone to stop and come see him. One of the comments was which bathroom was going to be used until the transition was complete. Mind you this was 14 years ago so attitudes were rampant and open minds still did not exist, not even inquisitive ones. I played golf with A/A's mother and I felt awful because there was NO familial support tendered in any way whatsoever. How are you supposed to feel if your own family abandons you??? Andrew left the workplace and went to California for the remainder of the transition due to New England at that time being so closed minded. The second instance was about two years ago but it was not employee related. One of the people I supervised was at lunch and told me about her neighbors having a child of 8 who had repeatedly felt they were in the wrong body and the grades were suffering due to school attitude. The neighbors and the family immediately got involved and hooked up with MMC where there is a transition team. This includes a set of special counselors and support young people to walk the child through this, people who understand the emotional and mental turmoil of the change and the feelings. There is also support for the adults as well as guidance. The school is supportive and other students are aware of what is happening in order to keep the bullying minimal if there is any. Education and open communication and HEART are necessary to support anyone in any lifestyle that is having conflict, no matter what they identify as (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

This is a fine and timely post, Annette. Thank you! But keep in mind that the kind of bigotry you describe won't necessarily be on the increase. Expressions of that bigotry will be, but we're winning the war. People's minds are changing day by day. The racists, homophobes and misogynists feel empowered by Trump and they can be counted on to run their mouths and make noise, but we can make noise too. So I'm sure that for a time it will look as if hatred has won. I'm sure when dinosaurs died they made noise and so will these anachronisms. Never give up. We're on the right side of history. Darling_Annette replies on 1/20/2017 4:44 am: ... as you can see, I've reworded it ... as an expression of my thanks - I give you yummy *hugs* ... mwah xx A. Bless you, that wasn't necessary. Readers knew what you meant, and so did I. I had to point out though that we're dealing with a minority here that is very angry, resentful and vicious. They're an awful combination of paranoid and stupid, and they're savoring a persecution complex. Wanna talk about the war on Christmas? I have fodder for them right now. Fuck Christmas. And Fuck Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too. The point being, if they have wanted a fight, now they've got one. Anyone recall how the last one went? Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

With the president pushing back to the states the ability to determine the laws that govern our community, we have taken steps backward. However as you say, that is the reason we need to work harder to overcome this tremendous bias and misinformation campaign against us.
