YOU'VE MADE YOUR BED, NOW LIE IN IT

YOU'VE MADE YOUR BED, NOW LIE IN IT

A recent survey in the UK found that nine out of ten men in a heterosexual relationship leave making the bed to their partner.

I plead guilty as I very rarely make the bed; my girlfriend does. My defence is that I have no problem with an unmade bed. Beds made only get unmade in less than half a day! What’s the point in making a bed?!

My girlfriend also wants our bedding changed regularly, but I love the smell of sex on bedding so I’m quite happy for the bedding not to be changed for at least a fortnight or even a month.

Also when my girlfriend changes the bedding, she doesn’t do hospital corners and she puts useless cushions on the newly made bed. This is just plainly wrong!

Who makes your bed?
How often do you change your bedding?
Do you have cushions on your bed?

'You've made your bed, now lie in it' is a popular saying. My parents often said this phrase to me when I made bad choices and felt I shouldn’t complain about what’s happened afterwards; somehow it was meant as a lesson in life.

However, this phrase doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. As with most adages, idioms and proverbs, another one can be dragged out to counter it. In this case Reinhold Niebuhr saying comes to mind: "grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

If someone can change something bad, then that choice should be reversed; if not, then, that bad has to be accepted even if not welcomed.

It’s a bit like Theresa May’s predicament now. The UK Prime Minister called a snap general election because she wanted "strong and stable leadership" and not a "coalition of chaos" in the run-up to the Brexit negotiations that are soon to start. Her "coalition of chaos" dalek-like phrase was a dig at a possible coalition government involving the Labour Party and Scottish National Party.

Now after the election we get a "coalition of chaos" with the Conservatives jumping into bed with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party; the DUP isn’t known for its liberal views! This will be a far more unstable coalition than that between the Labour and SNP.

Now my parents, both very staunch Tory voters, would have said that Theresa May has made her bed in calling the election and now she has to lie in it. I would say that this outcome was caused by unpopular austerity and Brexit policies. The way forward is for the Tories to reverse their decisions to cut welfare that hurt almost everyone and to proceed with Brexit that’ll hurt everyone.

But the Tories don’t have the guts to reverse their choices because they just want to cling onto power; this is why the UK's Conservative Party are arguably the most successful political party in the democratic world.

Professional pollsters keep getting it wrong - the 2015 general electioon, the Brexit referendum, the Trump election and now last week's election. I know its a difficult job but people make decisions based on their predictions.
I heard so many people saying, 'What's the point in voting Labour when they won't win?' and then look what happens!

In French, we have almost the same saying: "As one makes his bed, one goes to bed!"
I never make my bed and sleep very well. I change the bedding every week, I like the smell of my fabric softener.

Oh, geez, you don't care if you leave a mess, so she can just clean up after you. Aren't you just sweet?

I guess if she gets blood all over the toilet seat, that won't be a problem for you if she expects you to clean it up, either? After all, she'll probably just get blood on the toilet seat again.

I think you are misinterpreting what I'm saying. Just for the record the household chores are shared between me and my girlfriend; she just wants to make the bed more than me!

Who makes your bed? I don't - I'll be back in it in about 16 hours why bother?

How often do you change your bedding? Irregularly

Do you have cushions on your bed? If you mean pillows yes.

Here in the US we seem to have shit our beds by electing T-Rump. We may end up wallowing in it for 4 years.

No hospital corners for me, as those sheets with the elastic on the corner do the job, and I make my own bed. Only involves straightening the quilt on top and that's it. Learned hospital corners in the army though. We had to get them so tight that a coin would bounce if flipped on the top! I change the sheets about every 10 days. Plenty of cushions, oh yeah.
Lie in her bed with the DUP? Wondering who is going to run away first. Maybe another election in about 6-8 months, after a vote of no confidence?

We both make her bed after laundry......she makes it daily. I sleep on top of my bed so it never gets messed up.......When we sleep in trailer, we both sleep together and both make the bed!

Her bedding is changed weekly. The only cushion is "ME"!

I make my bed when I feel like it though it only entails pulling the covers up. I change the sheets when I feel like it but when I do, it's done properly ...hospital corners and all. I have a pillow for my head but those decorative cushions? pffft ... what a useless creation.

As for your political problems, could they be any worse than the USAs?

I make the bed no matter where I stay ( except an hotel but I do not leave the covers on the floor). I like coming in to a tidy bed

I change the sheets about every 8 days. I can make hospital corners and I have fitted bottom sheets as well { I also trained housekeepers in a 4 start hotel on how to clean a room and make beds from the bottom up to save wear and tear on the body }. LOVE the smell of fresh air dried sheets

I have feather bed pillows- lots of them but no fancy cushions

And there aren't enough feather pillows in the world to save the USA or the UK from all this political fall out

I use fitted sheets and a duvet so no need for hospital corners but I do know how to do them.

my mama taught us early but I was not the best at it yet when i'd return fro school, it always looked better than when I left in the morning. once I sussed that out, I barely pulled the covers up.

I make the bed when i'm having company. I change the sheets when the funk is getting to me. and decorative pillows annoy me.
